CWC Staff Awards 2013- PROPOSAL

Chantel's City Of Westminster College Staff Awards 2013 Proposal

Proposal:
City Of Westminster College Hosts a Staff Awards Event where staff members across the College receive
awards in Excellence In Teaching, Long Service, Retiring and for many other categories.
This event takes last for an hour and a half and takes place at The Paddington Green Campus around the end of the College Autumn Term.

Audience:
The audience profile for the Staff Awards will be staff members and other adults ages 25-65. The majority of the staff members are from The Paddington Green Campus, but other staff members from Queens Park and family members will be there. Altogether, there will be 300 people attending The Staff Awards.

Videos:
The Title sequence should show the best parts of the College such as staff members working in classrooms, in their offices and staff working around the College building. There should be a clip to show the College from the outside, and then the camera can travel throughout the College building. There should also be a familiar music soundtrack playing over the different clips. Having a familiar soundtrack will enable the viewers to engage with the song.

When filming the staff members during their interviews, I think they should be filmed in the rooms that they work in such as; filming a performing arts drama teacher in one of the theatre’s or filming the teachers that work in the engineering rooms. This will make the video clips look more interesting and I think it’s better than filming the staff in one place.
The interviews need to be filmed in a higher quality so that it comes out clear on the big screen. The interviews shouldn’t seem so serious and there should be a few memorable jokes that they interviews could tell the audience about.

Stings:
During the staff awards ceremony, there will a short clip (around 8 seconds) showing the award that the staff members will be receiving along with a short music soundtrack being played. This clip should show the award from different angles and camera shots so that you can see what the awards looks like properly.
There will also be short stings informing the audience about the different category’s that will be displayed. The stings could include the colours on the College’s logo. These colours are; light blue, navy blue, purple, red, orange and yellow. I think that using these colours would make the stings look more professional as they are the main colours for the College’s logo and the staff members and the rest of the audience will be more familiar with these colours.

Staging:
The staging of the staff awards should look interesting and exciting to look at. I think that the colours on the College’s logo should also be used for the staging as they are bright colours and it will go with the design used throughout the event. I think that the actual College logo should be on display, on the stage, where the staff members will receive their awards. The lighting used on the day should be bright and colourful.

Steal Like An Artist (Copied Photography)

I wanted my copied photography to be something with a musical element in it and I wanted to use light painting to create my image. I wanted my image to also have a dark background so that the light painting could stand out more and I made my image a little bit out of focus so that you could just focus mostly on the music notes.

I went to the TV Studio at City Of Westminster College and I made sure that it was dark inside. Then I used one model to hold the object. I then set the camera to a slower speed rate so that I had enough time to go and draw the music notes using a small button lighting.

CWC Staff Awards 2013- EVALUATION

My Evaluation

My peers and I were given the project of producing a Staff Awards Ceremony which is an annual event celebrating the successes and achievements of the staff at City Of Westminster College. The Vice Principal, Dr. Pat Squires was the chair of the event.
This project included planning a pre-title and a title sequence, emailing staff to be interviewed, filming staff about the people who were receiving awards and having the event filmed live.

The awards ceremony was split into 3 sections which were for; Long Service, Retirees and Excellence Awards.
During this project, my first job role was to email a few staff, informing them about the Staff Awards event and asking if they could talk about certain individuals who were receiving awards. I also made sure to ask the staff if they were available to be interviewed on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday.

As a class, we were able to choose which group we wanted to be in, whether it be in the group that were in charge of the pre-title and title sequence, interviewing the staff members, filming or editing the interviews. My peer and I were in charge of interviewing staff, another one of my peers took over the role of sending out emails to staff instead.

We were given the categories of the awards that the staff will be receiving. In the Excellence Awards sections, the 6 categories were; Excellence in: Teaching And Learning, Support For Students, Promoting Student Diversity, External Customer Services, Internal Customer Services and Leadership And Management. This made it easier for us to think of the type of questions to ask the staff. My peer and I then discussed what questions were going to ask and which one of us was going to do the interview.
We then went to find a place where the interview could be filmed. Finding a place for the interview was difficult sometimes as the rooms were either booked by other people already, so we had to make sure that we found a room before the interview took place.

When the staff arrived to be interviewed, I talked them through the questions that I was going to ask them. I was nervous to interview the staff as I couldn't find the confidence to ask them questions and to look directly into their eyes. However, when the staff told me that they were nervous themselves, it helped me and I gradually felt comfortable during the interview.

As the Staff Awards event was approaching, there were a lot of deadlines to meet. On some days, there were 3 or more interviews in one day. I started to panic a little bit as there was a lot of pressure to get these interviews done at the right times. Me and one of my peers made sure that we were taking turns with the interviews so that we didn't feel completely under pressure to get the interviews done. There were a few interviews that I was not aware of, so another one of my peers stepped in to help out.

On the day of the Staff Awards, some footage appeared to be missing and this became a concern to everyone, as we didn't have much time. Therefore, we quickly emailed one of the staff asking if they were available to be interviewed again. Luckily, they were available in the short space of time and we were able to put the footage back on the software.

My second role was being The Lighting Assistant. I really enjoyed doing this role as it was quite simple and easy to do. I had to make sure that the lights weren't too bright when the person talking about the awards was on stage. I also had to make sure that the lights were off during the video clips and the lights were bright once the staff collected their awards.

Overall, I really enjoyed being apart of the Staff Awards as it was fun and I liked the build up to the event. If I done this again, I would make sure that we were all a bit more prepared so that we wouldn't have to do any last minute interviews and so that we won’t have to worry about anything going wrong on the day of the event.

Working To A Brief

Sport Relief Telethon- PROPOSAL

TITLE: Sport Relief Telethon

Music Video (Pre-Recorded Item)

LENGTH: 2 - 3 Minutes

REQUIREMENTS:
To produce a short item for the Sport Relief Telethon. It should mostly appeal to the audience of Students who attend City Of Westminster College and should be suitable towards the Comic Relief charity ethos.

PROPOSAL:
I'm going to produce a music video for Staff and Students to watch at the Sport Relief Telethon. The music video will be suitable for this event as the lyrics are going to appeal to Sport Relief.

CONTENT:
I'll write a few lyrics to the song 'No Regrets' by Dappy and I'll add it to the verse of the song, then when it gets to the chorus of the song, I'll add a few images related to Sport Relief.

SHOOTING STYLE:
As I'll be featuring in the music video, I'll only need one person to film the music video using a DSLR Cannon Camera, which will be handheld throughout the video shoot. The location of the video shots will be outside on the balcony at City Of Westminster College and on one of the College staircases. The camera shots that I'll like to have in the video are Medium Shots, Long Shots and Wide Shots so that you can also see the surroundings of the environment.

TARGET AUDIENCE:
16-19 year old Full Time Students who attend City Of Westminster College.

How Will It Maintain The Audiences’ Attention?
As the song is quite popular and catchy, the audience may nod their heads to the song or sing along to it. Also there will be different images and camera shots throughout the video so that it will look interesting.
